I had the great honor of being accepted into the newly opened operations facility of SSUR. The brand was created by Ruslan Karablin, a well respected artist of New York. The name was founded through the reversal of his first name, Russ. It is the signature branding to his art pieces. SSUR is highly influenced by a combination of urban culture, music, Russian cultural influences, and timeless iconography of the 20th century. I had the opportunity to soak very valuable information about the industry and the daily operations of their staff. During my visit, the staff was consistently hard at work. From long customer care calls to deciding color ways for graphics, their staff is tied up with numerous task this season. I got to fulfill orders for customers and ghost behind their graphic designers to see new designs that may drop in upcoming seasons. It felt great to be in the working shoes of my favorite brand in the game right now. Unlike most brands, SSUR offers sub brands such as The Cut and Caviar Cartel. The Cut is home to the very popular CommedesFuckdown* beanie and tees as seen on ASAP Rocky, the infamous Harlem rapper. I spent numerous hours at the office and had an unforgettable time. The staff had more than motivated me to step my game and knowledge up for my future in the fashion industry. I would like to thank Russ and Vlad for letting me come out and feature SSUR. I could not wait to stop by one of my favorite brands, Orisue. The company had extraordinary success with it’s first line launch in the summer of 2006. I was 16 years old when I purchased my first Orisue t-shirt at a local street boutique and became quickly infatuated with the designs. The brand name is influenced by origami, the craft and intricate detail to Orisue products define next level apparel. The brand is very unique by revolutionizing cut & sew and continuing to provide their customers with affordable prices. The sizing and style of the company’s denim go beyond the standard pair of jeans and is one of Orisue’s greatest strengths. From useful pockets to eye catching colors, and interesting brand logo placements. When cuffing pants or shorts, you can tell Orisue pays a great amount of attention to detail. Armando Martinez was kind enough to take time out from his work and show me around the office during the visit to the headquarters. He gave me the run down of the new products for Fall 2012 and asked me what I would like to see from Orisue in future releases. I think everyone desires the revival of graphics since the company’s transition to focusing on cut & sew. Nevertheless, Orisue has answered our prayers and is bringing back the graphic game in its Spring 2013 line. I am more than ready to see what Orisue will create these upcoming seasons, they continue to impress me in their ability to be versatile in such a competitive industry. I would like to thank everyone at Orisue for making my experience worthwhile. Check them out and make sure to shop at www.orisue.com

Today I stopped by District Goods, a Los Angeles based street wear brand that made its debut Sept. 2011. I find a lot of interest within this brand, the staff, and their humble drive towards success. My evening was spent discussing what some of their pieces mean, to my surprise, there was more depth in the designs to what may actually look like simple graphics! District was started by the collaboration of two visionaries, Kendall Fuentecilla and Dro Duelas. The two artist utilize their skills effectively and craft incredibly clean designs for their apparel line. One thing I enjoyed most about my visit were the hats in production. The look and quality has definitely made progress from the previous season, I believe everyone will enjoy a more flexible and fitted feel from the new hats. District incorporates influence from the Los Angeles subculture to defining their own individual styles, which provides excellent balance for the company. The brand is definitely making a name for itself in the short amount of time on the street scene. I would more than recommend this brand to any street wear enthusiasts who enjoys bold, unique art work. Visit www.districtgoods.com to check out the merchandise.
